Jennifer Boone Stone - Director

Jennifer Boone Stone has a passion for dance that never ends.  At a very young age Jennifer knew she wanted to be a dance instructor and own her own studio.  She began teaching at The Roanoke Academy of Ballet when she was 13 years old.  Later, while attending Auburn University, Jennifer worked and became the Assistant Director of Auburn School of Dance and Performing Arts as well as Eufaula School of Dance. She became a certified dance instructor through Dance Masters of America in 2004.  Jennifer graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts.  In 2006, Jennifer made her dreams a reality when she opened The Dance Center on Main (DCOM) in Wedowee, Alabama. 

The DCOM competition team has won many awards around the Southeast including Alabama State Champions and Top Studio Awards at multiple regional competitions. Many of her students also hold Miss Dance Titles.  

Jennifer has been a guest choreographer for Auburn University, Southern Union State Community College, First Baptist Church of Wedowee, and New Horizon Community Theater. 

Forever a dance student, Jennifer continues to travel and train in the art of teaching dance. She has attended Broadway Dance Center’s Dance Teacher Workshop and The Dance Teacher Summit in New York City.  She also attends many dance teacher seminars and business classes at regional conventions.  Jennifer is very active in Dance Masters Chapter 33 where she is the solo chairman.  

 

Jennifer resides in Wedowee with her 3 dancing daughters Charlie, Chelsea, and Jaylee.

Kanaan Gay - Assistant Director

Born and raised in Wedowee Alabama, Kanaan started her dance career at The Dance Center on Main. She then continued her dance training at Southern Union State Community College under the direction of Sonja Fincher. After two years at Southern Union she then went to the University of Alabama where she earned her degree in Dance while specializing in teaching dance. After earning her degree in dance she began her journey in Pell City Alabama. She was the artistic director at a studio in pell city for 6 years and then came to own her own studio in Pell City. The time she spent directing and owning the studio in pell city, her competition team took home multiple “top studio” awards, multiple title positions and many other awards! She is excited be back home and to start this new journey with The Dance Center on Main! 

Sonja McCord Fincher - Ballet

Sonja McCord Fincher of Wedowee is excited to be teaching ballet and pointe at DCOM this year! With a B.S. from The University of Alabama and M.A. from Jacksonville State University, Sonja was the owner of The Roanoke Academy of Ballet for 14 years before becoming Director of Dance at Southern Union. For 43 years, she has enjoyed teaching students in this area and watching them follow their dreams in many careers, including dance. Former students have gone on to perform in television, movies, Broadway, Disney, Radio City Music Hall, and Carnival Cruise Lines, and in National and Regional Companies such as Complexions Contemporary Dance Company, Sanspointe, Arova, Alabama Ballet, and Huntsville Ballet. Many of her former students have danced in college and university dance programs and dance teams and now teach at universities and studios across the Southeast. Sonja is the proud mother of Lindsay Fincher, a former DCOM dancer who is now a dance major at the University of Alabama.

Tina Glass- Tap, Hip Hop, Acro

Born and raised in Wedowee, Tina began her dance career at the age of 5 at Roanoke Academy of Ballet under the direction of Vicki Parker and began teaching at age 13. Upon the opening of The Dance Center on Main (DCOM) in 2006, Tina transferred and danced under the direction of Jennifer Boone Stone the remainder of her high school career. During her years at DCOM, Tina performed on the competition team and served as an instructor teaching various ages of students and styles of dance. Tina then moved on to Southern Union where she danced for two years under the direction of Sonja Fincher and continued working as an instructor at DCOM during this time. She also taught aerobics/fitness courses for Southern Union. 

After graduating Southern Union, Tina then went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Collaborative Elementary Special Education from The University of Alabama and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from The University of South Alabama. She now serves as a Special Education Teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary in Roanoke. 

Upon graduating college and moving back to Wedowee, Tina was presented with the opportunity to be the lead dance instructor at Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Lineville and launched the studio’s first competition team in 2013. 

Tina’s love and passion for dance have been evident throughout her career. While she danced and instructed in various studios over the years, in 2017, her daughter began her first year of dance which also led Tina back “home” to DCOM! 

Tina resides in Roanoke with her husband Chris and their two daughters, Lakyn and Landry. She is so thankful to have the opportunity to share her love and passion for dance with the DCOM family!

Jennifer Gay- Acro

Hi! My name is Jennifer Gay. I live in Woodland, Alabama with my husband and three children. I am a 2nd grade teacher at Roopville Elementary, where I have spent 22 years. I began teaching Acro classes at the Dance Center On Main in 2010. I find great joy in encouraging and teaching children.

Joanna Everett- Acro

Joanna Everett began her dance career at the age of 2 at Roanoke Academy of Ballet. Joanna remained at RAB for 13 years before transferring to dance at Southern Union State Community College as an accelerated high school student. During this time, she also started training at Gymagination All Star Cheer and Gymnastics in Roanoke.

Joanna attended Southern Union on an athletic scholarship and served as cheer captain for both of her years there. She continued her dance education with the SU dance program under the direction of Sonja Fincher.

After graduating from Southern Union, Joanna transferred to the University of Tennessee where she cheered and earned a Bachelor’s of Agricultural Science in Agricultural Education. She later went on to obtain a master’s degree in Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication from the University of Tennessee. While in college, Joanna was a head instructor for the Universal Cheerleaders Association, coached cheer and taught creative movement at Starz Elite and was a tumbling instructor at Premier Athletics Knoxville West.

Upon graduation, Joanna started teaching high school agricultural science and served as cheer coach for 7 years. Joanna then received the opportunity to become a sales representative for Varsity Spirit Fashion and Varsity All Star Fashion. She has continued to coach cheer and dance, most recently at Martin Methodist College, where she was head coach for the competitive dance team, competitive cheer team, and gameday cheer team. Joanna is currently the head cheer coach at her alma mater, Southern Union State Community College where she is working to build a competitive program.

Joanna has a passion for developing athletes in the areas of acro and tumbling and is thankful to be a part of the DCOM family. She is married to her college sweetheart, Aaron; they reside in Woodland with their three children, Rackley, Marion Joe, and Lila Myrl.
